Restauration of the Amsterdam Salon ship Hilda.
RESTORATION

A short description of what you see on the picture pops up when you place your mouse on it.
The Hilda at the Geldersekade before the restoration. The red part has already been renewed.Seen from above before the restoration.

Continuation of history:'In 1998 I received definite permission for transport on water, hence restorations could begin'.
Here you see what is removed and cut out of the hull i.e. to be renewed. A restoration detail. The welder creates a fireworks display.

Many parts had to be renewed. The front of the ship being renewed. The new propeller shaft is visible.

The new steel plates are being shaped with a hamer, old fashioned craftmanship. Almost resembling a sailing ship.

The electro-motor being tested Niek is putting the main engine in it's place.

The bow thrust ready to install. Close-up wood clamps.

The wooden edge of the roof. The carpenters are hard at work.

The generator, source of all energy, is being hoisted aboard. The sailcloth windows are ready.

The Hilda almost in the ropes, ready to be taken outside. The first trip was with a tugboat.

The ship almost complete. The first guests find a place at the back.

A new ship with loads of history, the flag can go up.
