History of the first excursion steamer of Amsterdam: Salonboot Hilda.
HISTORY

The story of the Hilda starts around 1895. She was built as a passenger ship for sailing trips on the Rhine.
In 1923 Cornelis Albertus Plas brought her to the Netherlands and started a private cruise enterprise in Amsterdam.
In the fifties she was taken out of service, to be salvaged from demolition much later by two brothers who turned her into a yacht.
The Hilda in 1930, at that time the Rokin was still a canal. The Hilda on the Damraklanding stage.

In the nineties Niek Teijken saw her on the Borneoquay: I immediately fell for her lines. I knew she was something special, even though the superstructure was terrible. Twenty-three thousand guilders I had to pay, but I paid it gladly; if you buy a cheap, ugly hull it'll never become a beautiful boat.
The restoration could start.
